Ohio - Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed an executive order expanding which drug testing tools are legal to carry in the state, a move local health leaders said could save more lives by preventing accidental overdoses.
The order allows people to legally possess reagent kits and other drug testing tools, which can detect a wider range of dangerous additives in street drugs.
These kits go beyond fentanyl test strips, which were decriminalized in 2023.
“It’s good news in that individuals who choose to use the test strips or the reagents to test their drugs before using them, are able to have them on them without being charged with paraphernalia charges,” said Brenda Heidinger, associate director of the Mahoning County Mental Health & Recovery Board.
