SEATTLE -- As the Tigers prepare to open the American League Division Series against the Mariners, Tarik Skubal is prepared to finish the Seattle portion of his season with another memorable homecoming.

Detroit announced on Friday that Skubal would start Sunday's Game 2; Troy Melton will get the nod for Saturday's ALDS opener.

In a way, Skubal's road to the pros began in the shadow of Mt. Rainier, when Seattle University took a chance on the young lefty out of Kingman, Ariz., and was the lone Division I school to offer him a scholarship. Skubal was feted at the school during the Tigers' April visit to face the Mariners, and then went on to strike out eight in Detroit's 3-2 loss on April 2.
