MILWAUKEE – Cubs rookie right-hander Cade Horton will not be active for the National League Division Series, manager Craig Counsell announced on Friday afternoon.
Horton, who has been sidelined with a right rib fracture , was out for the NL Wild Card Series against the Padres. Because of his 15-day injured list placement (retroactive to Sept. 25), he was eligible to return for a potential Game 5 on Oct. 11. But since rosters are set before each round, Horton would need to be added as an injury replacement.
“He feels good, but ... we're encouraging healing right now, so we're not doing anything that would cause pain,” Counsell said. “We haven't pushed him to a place that we would test that. I think as we get into later this week, we're going to have to decide if it's time to do that,
