TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - A Sahuarita man was arrested after allegedly calling in a fake kidnapping and assault at the Walmart in town on Thursday, Oct. 2.

The Sahuarita Police Department said Shane Jamrych, 36, is facing a charge of making a false report to law enforcement. He was released on his own recognizance, and his next court appearance is set for 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 28.

The SPD said the incident began around 10 a.m. when Jamrych called 911 and said he got into a fight with a man who tried to kidnap two children, including Jamrych’s.

Several officers rushed to the scene, and law enforcement agencies across southern Arizona began looking for the suspect.

The TPD said surveillance video did not back up Jamrych’s claims, so he was taken into custody.
