WEST UNION, W.Va. — Trailing 7-0 at halftime, Doddridge County flipped momentum with a key special teams play en route to a 21-7 win over Petersburg in a battle of unbeaten teams.
Brandon Davis’ blocked punt and Landon Thomas’ return to the PHS 17-yard line midway through the third quarter set up Doddridge County’s first of three touchdowns in the second half.
“When Brandon blocked that punt, it really swung momentum and our guys were really fired up after that,” said Doddridge County head coach Bobby Burnside.
Lyric Blake rushed for a 9-yard touchdown, pulling the Bulldogs within a point at 7-6. Blake later added a 15-yard touchdown reception from Brysen Dixon to cap the scoring.
