Rarest of rare: 'Foetus-in-foetus’ baby delivered at Karnataka hospital

HUBBALI: In a medical rarity, Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMC RI) performed the delivery of a foetus-to-foetus baby. Dr Ishwar Hasabi, Medical Superintendent, KMC RI, told TOI that the delivery was performed on September 23, and an inner foetus with a spinal vertebra was seen in the MRI scan. "The mother is from Kundagol taluk, and she attended all regular check-ups at our hospital. It was a normal and mature delivery. Both the baby and mother are doing well. The baby's father is one of fraternal twins. This is the second delivery for the couple," Hasabi said. No history of any health problems was seen in the family.
