BISMARCK — The Hoover dam, 3.3 million horsepower or nearly 5 million solar panels — that's the amount of power generation a handful of hyperscale data centers in North Dakota will be guzzling within the next decade, and both industry and local leaders say it's just the beginning.

"This thing hit faster than I ever expected," said Aaron Birst, Association of Counties executive director, of the "AI Revolution."

The term was recently coined by the tech industry to describe the magnitude of the snowballing, resource-intensive technological advancement of artificial intelligence, which involves computers learning and making decisions like a human would.
