Australia secured a 64-53 victory over South Africa in the first netball Test held in Bendigo. The match began with a competitive first quarter, ending in a tie at 14-14. However, the Australian team, known as the Diamonds, intensified their performance in the second quarter, establishing a 34-26 lead by halftime.
Despite a strong effort from the South African team, the Diamonds maintained their advantage in the final two quarters. Sophie Garbin was the standout scorer for Australia, successfully making 34 goals out of 38 attempts. Kiera Austin contributed significantly as well, scoring 16 goals from 19 attempts.
On the South African side, Elmeré van der Berg was the top performer, netting 37 goals from 42 attempts. The match showcased the competitive spirit of both teams, with South Africa putting up a spirited fight throughout.
The three-Test series will continue in Wollongong on Wednesday, with the final match scheduled for October 12 in Adelaide.
