Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt has been left out of Ronald Koeman's Netherlands squad for the upcoming round of international fixtures.

De Ligt has been at the centre of United's defence this season, starting all six of their Premier League games. But despite rediscovering his form at Old Trafford recently, Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has axed the towering centre-half from his squad for the upcoming international break.

It comes just over a year after the United centre-back received heavy criticism for his performances for the national team. During the team's 2-2 draw with Germany in the September international break last year, De Ligt was at fault for both the opposition team's goals.
