Cristiano Ronaldo could return to face his former side Manchester United in a mid-season friendly match.

Reports this week have claimed the cash-strapped Red Devils are considering a winter trip to the Middle East to recoup funds lost from missing out on European qualification and their premature Carabao Cup exit this season.

Their lack of midweek fixtures means Ruben Amorim 's side certainly have the opportunity to play additional matches compared to their Premier League counterparts in an effort to boost revenue. The Portuguese head coach acknowledged that fact, recently stating: "We have to do it. We knew it when we missed Europe. We have our fans, we have the budget, we have to compensate a lot of things.”
