Chandigarh, October 4, 2025: Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has strongly objected to the practice of deploying teachers for clerical and administrative duties in certain districts, calling it "unacceptable" and a violation of their primary role as educators.

Bains emphasized that teachers are not ordinary government employees but “torchbearers of knowledge, entrusted with the sacred duty of shaping Punjab’s future.” He cited Section 27 of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, which explicitly prohibits engaging teachers in non-educational work, except for Census, Disaster Relief, and Election duties.
