Fargo and Harwood are in the middle of a spat that’s getting uglier every week. To recap, Applied Digital plans to build a huge $3 billion artificial intelligence data center in eastern North Dakota. The facility will create more than 200 jobs.
The spot for the project is southeast of Harwood, population 840, but in Harwood’s extraterritorial zone. So, in essence, Harwood controls that land.
Fargo, population 136,000 and 5 miles south of the project, wants to annex the land where the center will be built. That’s because the facility’s location is out of Fargo’s extraterritorial zone. The Fargo City Commission has already voted to annex the land.
