Gilbert paramedic Michaela and emergency medical technician Matthew were recently honored with the Life Saving Award by the Sons of the American Revolution.

The award recognizes their quick response and care while transporting a patient experiencing a heart attack. The receiving hospital staff said that without Michaela and Matthew’s involvement, the patient would not have survived.

Matthew has served with Gilbert Fire and Rescue for nearly three years and has been an EMT for seven.

“I am honored to receive this award, and it means a lot to be recognized for the work we do, but at the end of the day, Michaela and I were just doing what we and all the other members of this great department signed up to do, which is to help others," he said.
