Srinagar — The deaths of 14 children in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, allegedly linked to contaminated cough syrup, have triggered nationwide action by drug regulators and state governments. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has launched risk-based inspections at 19 pharmaceutical manufacturing units across six states, including producers of cough syrups and antibiotics.
Toxic syrup confirmed
The deaths occurred in Chhindwara district, where 10 children in Parasia subdivision, two in Chhindwara city, and one in Chaurai tehsil succumbed to suspected renal failure. Children affected include Shivam (9), Vidhi (6), Adnan (6), Usaid (9), Rishika (10), Hetansh (11), Vikas (9), Chanchlesh (8), and Sandhya Bhosom (7).
