LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lincoln Police Department is investigating an apparent murder-suicide on Friday after discovering a Lincoln couple dead inside their home in near south Lincoln.

LPD responded to a check welfare at a home near S. 14th and Sumner streets at 10:45 a.m. LPD said officers determined there was an urgent need to go inside the home to make sure both occupants were safe.

According to LPD, when they entered, they found a 51-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman dead on the floor of a bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds.

Their identities are being withheld until their families are notified.

LPD said they are investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide based on the injuries and evidence at the scene and don’t believe there is an active threat to the public.
