A giant blob of rain working its way through northern Utah on Saturday prompted dangerous flooding in one county and closed a popular outdoor event in Salt Lake City.

According to the National Weather Service, potentially “life-threatening” flooding is already underway following early morning thunderstorms that dropped 1.5 to 2 inches of rain over the Jacob City burn scar in Tooele County.

Heavy rain over the area has triggered a debris flow composed of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials.

The weather service warns that flash flooding and debris flows are expected to impact the county road near the water treatment plant in Soldier Canyon, as well as areas downstream along Soldier Creek to State Road 36.
