Dan Gilbert’s Bedrock, whose footprint dominates downtown Detroit, has decided to scale back its development on the former Wayne County Jail site after a major tenant unexpectedly withdrew from the project, The Detroit News reports. The project will be reduced by more than half.

According to City Planning Commission documents, the proposed Gratiot Life Sciences Building development at 1326 St. Antoine now calls for a two-story, 90,000-square-foot building, compared with the previous plan for a five-story, 211,000-square-foot project.

Bedrock explained the consequences of the tenant withdrawing.
