SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A former Spartanburg County Sheriff’s deputy is now back in the Upstate after being held in a Mexican jail for days.
Russell Lynch told FOX Carolina that he was sightseeing near the Mexico border in Texas this week when he accidentally crossed the border with firearms in his jeep.
Lynch said he was facing multiple charges that carried a penalty of six years minimum in prison and 30 years maximum.
Crediting the help of family, friends and Congressman William Timmons, Lynch said that he was released and the charges were dropped.
In a social media post , Congressman Timmons said his office is “committed to helping Upstate residents navigate urgent and challenging situations, whether at home or abroad.”
