Rohit Sharma’s time as India’s ODI captain has come to a close, with the BCCI appointing Shubman Gill as the new leader ahead of the series against Australia. Rohit, considered one of India’s best captains in this format, may not be part of the 2027 World Cup, so it made sense to give a younger player time to settle into the role. Another reason for this change is that the selectors preferred not to have different captains for each format of the game.
