LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A woman is dead after an apartment fire in Algonquin early Saturday morning.

According to Captain Donovan Sims of Louisville Fire, firefighters responded to a structure fire around 7:40 a.m. at 1600 S. 11th Street.

Crews arrived within three minutes and found light smoke showing from a first-floor room.

Firefighters made entry and found a female inside, who was removed and given medical attention. She was then transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Fire crews put out the fire by 8:00 a.m., Louisville Arson is heading the investigation as to what caused the fire.
