After a great showing on the first day of the IHSAA girls golf state finals Friday, Kennedy Gutierrez did not slow down Saturday.

The Valparaiso freshman shot 77, for a cumulative score of 149, to secure a tie for fifth place in her first-ever appearance at state.

Gutierrez, who was even yesterday, began her day with a par and a birdie on hole two. She closed the front nine with four bogies, to end the first half of her day three over.

On the back nine, Gutierrez shot par on her first five holes before bogeying the next three. A birdie on hole 18 gave the Viking a 38 to close her day, and she ended her day with a birdie on hole 18. Gutierrez finished eight strokes behind the winner, Taylor Snively, of Zionsville, who was three under and had a cumulative score of 141.
