FLORISSANT — Bryce Chitwood simply drilled the football as hard as he could.
The Mehlville High sophomore kicker hammered the second-half kickoff of Saturday's game at McCluer North right at the nearest Stars up man.
"Just hit it like a soccer ball," Chitwood said.
The rocket bounced off a McCluer North player and right at the foot of Chitwood, who promptly fell on the ball.
The onside recovery kick-started the Panthers on their way to a 28-12 win in the nonleague affair.
Mehlville (2-4) scored three times in the second half to break a 6-all tie.
Chitwood started the onslaught with a perfectly-executed special teams play.
"It's something we work on, but not a lot," Mehlville coach Kent Heinemann said. "Everyone just came out and executed."
