LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

One of the most highly attended collegiate cross-country events returned to Louisville over the weekend.

Thousands came to Derby City to compete in the 24th annual Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic.

The Louisville Sports Commission hosted 110 colleges and universities from 23 states.

More than 2,400 racers gathered at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park early Saturday morning to kick off the event.

The 5K, 6K, 8K, and 10K races were held starting at 9 a.m.

There is also a high school invitational and open race, as well are races for middle school students.

The race marks seven weeks before the National Collegiate Championship weekend.
