It's been a season of near misses for Ninety Six, and that was once again the case in its region opener. The Wildcats went back and forth with Pelion on Friday night but came up short in a 35-28 loss.
“We didn’t make enough big plays, and we didn’t contain them from making big plays," Ninety Six coach Mathew Bennett said.
The Wildcats fell behind early but evened things up early in the second quarter when Carver Davis scored a rushing touchdown.
The Panthers were able to answer back and retake the lead, but just before halftime, Joe Moore found the end zone, and a two-point conversion gave Ninety Six a 15-14 lead at the break.
