CHESTERTON, Ind. — A woman was rescued Wednesday after reportedly falling down a dune at Indiana Dunes State Park.

According to a Facebook post from the Town of Chesterton, Indiana , shortly before noon on Oct. 1, the Porter and Chesterton Fire Departments were called to Indiana Dunes State Park after a report that a woman who was hiking had fallen down the side of a dune.

Chesterton Fire Department Chief Sean O'Donnell said the woman sat down on a tree branch to rest during her hike when the branch snapped. Officials say the woman was unable to gain her footing and plummeted about 10-15 feet down the side of a sand dune.
