MICHIGAN CITY — A pickup truck broke through a metal guardrail and drove into a body of water Saturday afternoon near Washington Park Beach and Michigan City Harbor, according to multiple eyewitnesses and police. Two adults were transported to a Chicago area hospital in critical condition.

Officers from the Michigan City Police Department responded to the area of 100 Water St. at approximately 5:30 p.m. after the LaPorte County Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding a vehicle that drove into Trail Creek, a canal connected to Lake Michigan, the department said in a news release.

Two adults were removed from the vehicle and transported to Franciscan Health for medical treatment, police said. The two adults were then transported to a Chicago area hospital for
