New research has revealed the surge in bizarre claims made by Aussie travellers in Thailand - from monkey bites to even missing a flight from being stuck in gridlocked traffic for six hours.

While the southeast Asia destination has been a popular tourist hotspot for Aussies, the wildly popular HBO series The White Lotus, has ignited fresh interest in the country and brought a flurry of surprising claims.

Southern Cross Travel Insurance (SCTI) reported a 43 per cent jump in the number of Australians requiring emergency help in Thailand in the first half of 2025, compared to the same period in 2024.

Claims for monkey bites, dog bites and even a missed flight caused by six hours of gridlocked traffic were among the most unusual received by SCTI.
