Eurostar recently announced that it hopes to introduce direct train services between London and Frankfurt by the early 2030s as part of wider expansion plans by the cross-Channel train operator.

The rail link would offer UK passengers a direct no-fly route to the German city that is perhaps best known for finance and festive markets.

Currently, to reach the city by rail from the UK, you have to travel from London St Pancras to Brussels-Midi (two hours), then change to a Deutsche Bahn high-speed ICE train to Frankfurt (two hours 45 minutes).

When to visit

Renowned as the home of the European Central Bank, financial institutions and the birthplace of Goethe, the city is also where you’ll find one of Germany’s oldest Christmas markets (25 November until 22 December 2025).
