SEATTLE -- Kerry Carpenter delivered the blast that changed the game, and Zach McKinstry provided the swing that won it.

McKinstry’s RBI single in the 11th inning lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners in front of a raucous crowd of 47,290 at T-Mobile Park on Saturday night, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five American League Division Series.

“This is for everything, right? We worked all season to earn our spot in this opportunity, and there’s a lot of excitement and adrenaline that comes with that,” said Tigers manager A.J. Hinch. “And a crowd either rooting for you or rooting against you can create a little bit of a multiplier in those emotions.”
