The Duke football defense knew early not to panic.

Facing an early 14-7 deficit after the opening quarter and down two linebackers – Tre Freeman due to injury and Bradley Gompers, who stepped in for Freeman, to a targeting ejection – the Blue Devils quickly adjusted.

"We recognize that this week wasn't going to be last week," coach Manny Diaz said postgame. "We were going to face adversity, and we had to be prepared to overcome it."
