The government has addressed demands for fresh Sunday trading regulations affecting Asda , Morrisons, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl and Sainsbury's. The Labour Party administration has responded to pressure for new legislation extending Sunday shopping hours.
The Treasury confirmed the Government "does not intend to make changes". Mark Allatt from the Open Sundays campaign has pressed the Labour administration to "introduce a Sunday Trading (Modernisation) Bill in the next King's Speech".
Mark called for pilot schemes involving full-day trials across selected areas. Speaking to City AM this week before the November Budget, he declared: "The 1994 Act was a compromise born of compromise; today's Britain demands bold evolution."
