A mosque in Peacehaven, near Brighton on England’s south coast, was set on fire on Saturday night, prompting police to investigate the incident as a suspected hate crime.

Two people were inside the mosque at the time of the attack but escaped unharmed.

Attack Caught on Camera

According to reports, two individuals wearing balaclavas attempted to break open the mosque’s door before pouring gasoline on the steps and setting it ablaze.

A volunteer at the mosque told the BBC, “It could have been murder.” The quick action of the two people inside prevented any injuries.

Police Investigation Underway

Sussex Police confirmed that the front entrance of the mosque and a vehicle parked outside were damaged in the fire.
