NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Five people have died while subway surfing so far this year, according to the NYPD.

Early Saturday morning, two teenage girls were found dead after subway surfing near the Marcy Avenue and Broadway station in Brooklyn, sources told PIX11 News.

It brings the total number of deaths for the year to five, quickly catching up to last year. Six people died from subway surfing in 2024, according to the Associated Press. It was an increase from five the year before.

“Parents, teachers, and friends need to be clear with loved ones: getting on top of a subway car isn’t ‘surfing’—it’s suicide,” said NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow.
