ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCBD) - Authorities are investigating two shootings that prompted a lockdown of South Carolina State University.

The first shooting happened near the Hugine Suites student residential complex on Saturday evening.

Two victims were taken to a hospital. University officials said a female victim, who was a guest on campus, died.

A male victim, also a guest, was airlifted to another hospital. His condition is unknown.

Another guest on campus was injured while running from the scene of the first shooting.

“The shootings occurred during the university’s annual Homecoming celebration several hours after the game. The university canceled the Homecoming concert scheduled for 10 p.m., along with all activities planned for Sunday,” the university said in a statement.
