ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — One person is dead, and another is in the hospital after separate shootings that led to a campus lockdown at South Carolina State University on Saturday night that remains in effect on Sunday afternoon.
Now, officials say classes have been canceled on Monday with counseling available on-site.
The university said in a Saturday night campus alert that police were investigating shots fired in the area of Hugine Suites. In a later update, the university confirmed that two people were shot Saturday evening in separate shootings. The first happened near the Hugine Suites student residential complex. The university said a female guest was wounded and taken to an area hospital, where she died.
