SHEPHERDSTOWN -- Every year, the Freedom's Run Race Series draws runners from all walks of life and from all across the country to compete on its picturesque, yet challenging, race course. And this year proved to be no exception.

As the 10k was about to kick off on Saturday morning, Freedom's Run founder and organizer Dr. Mark Cucuzzella noted that the race had runners of all ages, from as young as 10 to as old as 88. It also, for the first time ever, was being run by a blind runner, who was running the course alongside a sighted guide. This, to Cucuzzella, highlighted the beauty of running -- that it is a sport that can be enjoyed by those of all ages and walks of life.
