The arrest of Sonam Wangchuk during the protests in Ladakh is illegal and arbitrary, his wife Geetanjali Angmo said in a plea, demanding the climate activist's release , before the Supreme Court. The top court will hear Wangchuk's plea on Monday.
In her plea, Angmo, the founder and CEO of the Himalayan Institute of Alternative Learning (HIAL), alleged she was put under "virtual house arrest" and was not allowed to travel or meet people. She argued that no grounds of detention and arrest of Wangchuk were disclosed and that no clothes or medicines were allowed for him inside the jail.
