A 25-year-old man was killed early Sunday after being caught in the crossfire of a shooting in Akron’s Highland Square neighborhood, police said.

Officers responded around 12:25 a.m. to the 800 block of West Market Street after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found the man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe the victim was unintentionally struck during an exchange of gunfire between two unidentified suspects. Detectives from the Major Crimes and Crime Scene units are interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence.
