Bhadrak: A minor girl was killed after a concrete slab fell on her during the construction work of an overbridge on National Highway (NH)-16 in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Sunday.

As per sources, the mishap took place at Bishnupur Square under the jurisdiction of Dhamnagar police station when the prefabricated slab was being lifted by a crane during construction of the sidewall of the overbridge in the afternoon. ADVERTISEMENT

The slab fell on the minor girl, aged around eight years, while she was crossing the road. She reportedly died on the spot.

The incident sparked tension in the area as a large number of local residents staged a road blockade and set an earthmover, engaged in construction work, on fire.
