The Texas A&M Forest Service said Sunday, Oct. 5, that the Tule Fire burning northeast of Plainview in Briscoe County remains an estimated 3,500 acres and 80% contained. Officials reported no containment issues overnight.
Crews are focused on improving containment lines and patrolling the perimeter to check for hotspots near the canyon edge. Fire activity is described as minimal.
The wildfire was first reported by the Forest Service on Saturday, Oct. 4. It quickly grew to about 3,000 acres before initial containment efforts began that afternoon. By Saturday evening, the blaze was estimated at 3,500 acres and 50% contained after aircraft water drops slowed its spread near the canyon. Heavy equipment was used to build containment lines around the perimeter.
