The historic Summit Diner is set to receive a massive grant to boost its business.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express named the Summit Diner as one of 50 restaurants from around the country to receive a $50,000 grant “to help renovate and grow” its business. The original Summit Diner was built in 1929, but the current diner was built by Jerry O’Mahony, a diner manufacturer once located in Bayonne.

The diner has been a longtime staple of the N.J. restaurant scene and has repeatedly been named as one of the best diners in the state. With its barrel roof, checkered floor, and mahogany wood paneling, it is a classic vintage diner in one of N.J.’s busiest downtown centers.
