The man accused of killing a New Orleans chef in Mid-City on Tuesday has died.

According to Raymond Wells' family, he was declared dead on Friday, Oct. 3.

Wells was found in Carl Morgan's car on I-10 in Metairie around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to the head.

NOPD confirmed Wells was the suspect in the deadly shooting of Morgan.

Police said Morgan was found in the parking lot of Abeona House Child Discovery Center on Canal Street after being shot and killed during a carjacking while picking up his child around 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to police, they were able to track the stolen vehicle to I-10 in Metairie near the Bonnabel exit, where Wells was found with a gunshot wound to the head.
