Aaron Glenn's New York Jets are a prime example of why success doesn't happen overnight in the NFL.

Through five games, the Jets have lost three one-score games. They have, aside from a blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills, mostly been competitive throughout each matchup. Yet, despite the moral victory of "hanging in there," the Jets are a dreadful 0-5. No matter what happens between now and next Sunday, New York will, at the very least, be tied for the NFL's worst record.

There's something to be said for shifting a culture slowly. However, I'm not sure I would tout how good practices have been when my team has lost five straight games. Someone did not pass along this memo to Jets head coach Aaron Glenn.

After the Jets took a 37-22 loss from the Dallas Cowboys on the chin, Glenn explained what's happened with the Jets' process as they dig a deeper hole in the NFL's basement. Among other things, he said New York's practices have been "damn good."

Uh, sure, OK. Great? Good for the Jets? I don't know how this applies to a 0-5 start, but it's nice to know that the play that doesn't count and no one else outside of the organization sees is at least going well ... I guess?

On some level, I know what Glenn is trying to say.

He's hinting that the Jets' internal process is sound, even if they're not getting the results yet. Which is fine, because no one, not even the Jets, had high expectations for them this year. As a franchise, the Jets can afford to be patient while learning how to win. Even still, it's a little weird to talk about how good practice play has been in public for a team that is now winless five weeks into a season.

I can't imagine Jets fans will take this kindly. Well, the ones that still feel something, I mean.

Maybe save that part of the motivational speech for your players and coaches, you know? It's just a thought.
