LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Dozens of community members gathered at Hawk Island Park on Sunday to help raise awareness on domestic violence, with its annual walk.

The Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence puts on the walk to help bring awareness on the prevalence of domestic violence across Mid-Michigan.

Those who participated in the event could walk and learn about violence. They could also share experiences and connect with the community.

Cheree Thomas, who’s part of the Michigan Coalition, talked about how having awareness can spark a change.

“Domestic violence can happen to anyone in our community, and we all have an opportunity to make a difference,” said Thomas. “It’s not anybody’s fault if they experienced domestic violence, but all of us can make a difference.”
