ORANGEBURG, S.C. ( WIS /Gray News) - At least one person is dead and another is in the hospital after two separate shootings at an HBCU in South Carolina.

On Saturday, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) launched an investigation following two separate shootings at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg.

Authorities confirmed that a woman was killed in one incident and a man was also injured in a separate incident.

Officials identified the female victim as 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler. She was found dead at the scene.

SC State officials confirmed the victims were not students, but instead were visiting guests who attended homecoming activities.

Law enforcement believes the shootings are not connected at this time.
