A three-alarm fire that spread to other buildings Sunday afternoon in a Garfield neighborhood is being investigated for possible arson.
The fire at 568 Palisade Ave. started at 12:16 p.m. and spread to several surrounding structures, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Garfield police and all four of Garfield’s fire companies fought the blaze with help from first responders from nearby communities. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit and Arson Squad also responded.
Authorities asked the public to avoid the area to allow first responders to continue their work and for officials to investigate the scene, the prosecutor’s office said.
No other information is available, the prosecutor’s office said.
