CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Dan Campbell said the decision to make Taylor Decker inactive was due to the “diminishing returns” to his shoulder injury.

The Detroit Lions head coach said the injury kept coming back a little worse each time Decker played through the pain. So, Campbell and Co. decided to let the team’s longest-tenured player rest and heal.

Simply put, the move to start Giovanni Manu at left tackle and rest Decker was all about the long haul. On the bright side, they were able to score their fourth straight win, beating the Cincinnati Bengals 37-24 in Week 5 action.

Decker underwent offseason shoulder surgery. He said he wanted to rehab through the injury, but after reporting for the spring program, he decided that surgery was the best choice for him and the Lions .
