Former Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said there would be “no worthier recipient” for the Nobel Peace Prize than US President Donald Trump, if his peace deal is agreed to by Israel and Hamas.

Hamas officials arrived in Egypt on Sunday ahead of talks with Israel. The U.S. hopes these talks will lead to a halt in fighting and the freeing of hostages in Gaza, but the terrorist group has not yet accepted the proposal in full.

Israeli negotiators, led by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, will travel to Egypt on Monday for negotiations over the release of hostages - part of President Trump's 20-point plan to end the nearly two-year conflict.

President Trump said later on Sunday that negotiations were advancing rapidly, and that he had been "told that the first phase should be complete
