South Carolina State University’s campus was forced to be on lockdown Sunday following two separate shootings during the university’s homecoming celebrations.
One person was killed and two were injured in the two unrelated shootings. One woman was tragically killed in one incident, and a man was also injured in a separate incident. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he is expected to survive.
According to WLTX, Coroner Sean Fogle said 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler was pronounced dead at MUSC Health Orangeburg Hospital.
As a result of the shootings, the homecoming concert scheduled for Saturday was also canceled.
