LINCOLN, Neb. —

The Nebraska Treasurer's Office calls itself one of the greatest consumer protection agencies out there.

"We're reuniting Nebraskans with their hard-earned dollars," Treasurer Tom Briese said. "And oftentimes, they don't even know they have it."

Briese is talking about the Unclaimed Property Division.

Mary Dalia from Bellevue is one of the beneficiaries, receiving money from investments made by her grandfather decades ago.

"It has to be at least 70 years ago," Dalia said. "I was shocked, to be honest."

Her grandfather invested in land across Nebraska. Through unclaimed property, Dalia discovered that the mineral rights for that land are still in her family's name. Since her mom has died, the benefits go to her and her sisters.
